MK8 GTI Front Lip

Steps in this install:

Tools Needed:

Remove Bumper

2. Pull down the fender liner, remove the screw that holds the corner of the bumper to the fender.

Now turn the wheel all the way to the left, remove the five - T25 passenger side screws.

3. Jack up the car so you can reach under the front bumper. Use jack stands, cribbing, or ramps if you are working on the ground.

NEVER CRAWL OR REACH UNDER A CAR THAT IS ONLY SUPPORTED BY ONLY A FLOOR JACK.

THEY CAN LOOSE PRESSURE AND DROP THE CAR.

4. Open the hood, remove the negative battery terminal with a 10mm wrench. Tuck the terminal to the side of the battery so it does not touch.

UNPLUGGING THE SENSORS IN THE BUMPER  WITH THE BATTERY ATTACHED CAN CAUSE DAMAGE! DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP.

5. Remove the two T25 screws on the top of the grill.

6. Slide the top edge of the grill forward. There are tabs under the core support. See blue arrows.

7. There are tabs along the bottom of the grill that fit into a slot on the bumper. Blue arrows call out the tabs. Reach into the bottom of the grill and gently pull one edge forward. Once the first tab releases, work along the grill to release each tab. Set the grill on top of the intake to keep it out of the way.

8. Remove the four T25 torx on the top of the bumper.

9. Remove the three T25 screws that hold the bumper to the fender liner under the car on one side. Then repeat on the other side.

10. Remove the three T25 torx along the center of the bumper that hold it to the core support.

11. Release the clips on the top of the bumper. A pick tool makes this easier.

Have a friend ready to hold the bumper in the next step. Or have an object ready to hold the bumper up while you detach the plugs. Cribbing, bucket, milk crate, cardboard box.

Read step 12, 13, 14 before proceeding.

12. Go to the edge of the bumper where it meets the fender. Slide your hand behind the bumper, and use even pressure to pull outwards. DO NOT pull in just one spot, you can damage the bumper or clips. Work along the headlight until all of the clip release. Then move to the other side of the car.

13. Unplug the fog light on each side. Press the tab in, then slide back to releast them.

14. Unplug the proximity sensors.  Press the tab in, then slide out.

15. Place the bumper on a clean soft surface so you don't scratch it. The hardest part is over!

Install Lip

1. Remove the outter T25 torx on each side of the bumper.

2. The bumper can be face down, or face up at this point. Place a clean towel underneath the bumper if you put it face down to protect the paint. Install the included silver T25 and washer  in the rearmost hole in the lip. This will align the lip on the bumper.

3. Pinch the lip and bumper tray between your hand, then drill out the two countersunk holes on each side near the fog lights.

4. Install a 30mm bolt and thread on a nut on the rear hole, and a 20mm bolt on the next hole forward. Repeat on the other side.

5. Drill out the remaining 10 holes along the center of the lip. Maintain control of the drill, you only need to poke through the lower tray.

6.Insert the spacers in-between the lip and bumper. The wide end faces forward.

7. Install a 25mm bolt into each of the rear holes. Check to ensure the bolt goes through the lip, narrow end of the spacer, then bumper. Thread on a nut, leave it finger tight.

8. Install 40 mm bolts into the front row of holes. check to ensure the bolt goes through the lip, tall end of the spacer, then bumper. Thread on a nut, leave it finger tight.

9.Tighten all of the bolts on the lip now. There should be no gaps between the lip and bumper on the edges. And no gaps between the lip and spacers at the center.

Reinstall Bumper

1. Hold the bumper in place at the front of the car. Plug in the fogs and proximity sensors.

2. Slide the center of the bumper onto the core support. Then check that the center of the bumper goes under this piece, and the holes line up.

3. Lift the edge of the bumper up. It needs to go over the tabs on the bottom of the headlight, then clip into the bracket on the bottom of the fender. Once everything is lined up, gently tap the clips in with your hand. Repeat for the other side.

4. Center the bumper left and right if necessary. Install the 4 screws on the top of the bumper.

5. Slide the grill in place. Install the two screws.

6. Install the 9 screws along the bottom of the bumper. Tuck the fender liners on top of the bumper tray.

7. Reinstall the terminal on the battery.

8. Turn the wheel all the way to the right, install the driver side screw to hold the bumper onto the fender first.

9. Tuck the fender liner into the bumper cover if needed. Then install the 4 screws to retain it.

Repeat step 8 & 9 on the passenger side.

DONE!
