NOTICE: Two vehicles are shown during this install, because this process overlaps with some MK8 Golf models.
Turn the steering wheel all the way to the right. Remove the three T25 screws holding the fender liner on the driver side. Then pull the liner down to remove the screw that holes the bumper to the fender. repeat for the passenger side.
Jack up the car so you can reach under the front bumper. Use jack stands, cribbing, or ramps if you are working on the ground.
NEVER CRAWL OR REACH UNDER A CAR THAT IS ONLY SUPPORTED BY ONLY A FLOOR JACK.
THEY CAN LOOSE PRESSURE AND DROP THE CAR.
Open the hood, remove the negative battery terminal with a 10mm wrench. Tuck the terminal to the side of the battery so it does not touch.
UNPLUGGING THE SENSORS IN THE BUMPER WITH THE BATTERY ATTACHED CAN CAUSE DAMAGE! DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP.
Remove the four T25 screws on the top of the grill.
Slide the top edge of the grill forward. Then use a pick or small flat head to release the tabs at the bottom of the grill. Place the grill on top of the intake airbox to keep it out of the way.
Remove the T25 torx on the top of the bumper (if your car has any - some don't).
Remove the five T25 screws that hold the bumper to the fender liner under the car on one side. Then repeat on the other side.
Go to the edge of the bumper where it meets the fender. Slide your hand behind the bumper, and use even pressure to pull outwards. DO NOT pull in just one spot, you can damage the bumper or clips. Work along the headlight until all of the clip release. Then move to the other side of the car.
Unplug the fog light on each side (if applicable). Press the tab in, then slide back to release them.
Unplug the proximity sensors. Press the tab in, then slide out.
Place the bumper on a clean soft surface so you don't scratch it. The hardest part is over!
Remove the outter T25 torx on each side of the bumper.
The bumper can be face down, or face up at this point. Place a clean towel underneath the bumper if you put it face down to protect the paint. Install the included longer silver T25 screw and washer in either hole to align the lip. Some cars will have both, this varies between Jetta/GLI.
This will align the lip on the bumper. Repeat on the other side.
Use a clamp or have a helper hold the lip in place. Use the countersunk holes on the lip to drill the 6mm / 1/4" holes into your bumper.
DO NOT DRILL OUT THE TWO REARMOST HOLES NEAR THE FENDER LINER (blue and white circle in previous step).
Use the diagram at the top of this page to insert the correct bolts into each hole. Insert the bolt through the lip, spacer, then bumper.
Hold the bumper in place at the front of the car. Plug in the fogs and proximity sensors.
2. Slide the center of the bumper onto the core support. Then check that the center of the bumper goes under this piece, and the holes line up.
Lift the edge of the bumper up. It needs to go over the tabs on the bottom of the headlight, then clip into the bracket on the bottom of the fender. Once everything is lined up, gently tap the clips in with your hand. Repeat for the other side.
Center the bumper left and right if necessary. Install the 4 screws on the top of the bumper.
Slide the grill in place. Install the two screws.
Install the screws along the bottom of the bumper. Tuck the fender liners on top of the bumper tray.
Reinstall the terminal on the battery.
Turn the wheel all the way to the right, install the driver side screw to hold the bumper onto the fender first.
Tuck the fender liner into the bumper cover if needed. Then install the 3 screws to retain it.
Repeat step 8 & 9 on the passenger side.
DONE!
